The Trenton Books at Home Program distributed almost $10,000 worth of books to Trenton kids in 2011.
Studies show that when kids have more books in their home libraries, they do better in school. Classics Used and Rare Books, 117 South Warren Street, raises store credit and money to make books available for all Trenton kids. In a struggling school district, this is one thing everybody can do to help kids succeed.
Through a partnership with local groups, Classics distributed $9,955 worth of books to Trenton students in 2011. Distribution partners include Robbins Elementary School, Trenton Head Start, the City of Trenton Heritage Days committee, the Trenton African American Pride Festival committee, Stokes School, Kids R First Daycare, Columbus School, the Cuyler Avenue Preschool, the Kingsbury Towers King and Hodges Learning Center, Delta Sigma, Bruce Boyd, the YWCA Preschool, the Garvey School, Trenton Central High School Doc Long poetry class, Passage Theatre after school program and Children’s Futures.
Though most donations came in the form of donated store credit, we would like to thank our monetary sponsors. With fiscal sponsorship from Children’s Futures, monetary support in 2011 came from Black Rock Financial, Content Trenton, Home Rubber, Hutchinson, Councilwoman Marge Caldwell-Wilson, former Mayor Douglas Palmer, Love Thy Neighbor Community Development and Opportunity Corporation, the Contemporary and many individual donors.
